1982年11月13日生まれ。京都府出身。
2000年に全米でリリースされた1stシングル「TAE BACK」、2ndシングル「Trust Your Love」が立て続けにヒット。「Trust Your Love」はビルボード総合ランキングの39位にランクインされた。日本での活躍も期待されたが、最初のヒットは2003年、人気ゲームソフト「ファイナルファンタジーX-2(PS2・スクウェアエニックス)」のテーマ曲に起用された7thシングル「real Emotion／1000の言葉」がロングヒット、28万枚というセールスに繋がり自己最高のヒット曲となった。翌年にはアニメ映画「キューティーハニー」の同名タイトルの主題歌をカバー、音楽番組への出演機会が増えるとともに露出の多い衣裳と過激なパフォーマンスが話題になった。
2005年の年末には16thシングル「Butterfly」が日本レコード大賞を受賞したほか、初のベスト盤「BEST～fist things～」は150万枚のビッグセールス、さらに12週連続のシングルリリースとたたみかけるように話題を提供し、12週連続リリースのシングルを中心につくられた2作目のベスト盤「BEST～second session～」が2006年3月にリリースされるや否や早くも100万枚突破と注目を集めた。
2006年には「夢のうた」で有線大賞を受賞。
